Lead Engineer, FACTS & HVDC Service Engineering
Overview
You will own technical leadership for FACTS and HVDC service contracts, supporting the install base with focus on fixed series capacitors (FSCs). You will drive reliability and performance of customer substations while providing guidance to site teams. This role blends deep engineering analysis with hands-on field work, offering 20% travel to client sites. You will shape maintenance programs and influence tendering decisions, making a direct impact on grid stability.
What You'll Do8
- 1Lead technical execution of multi-year FACTS service contracts, ensuring customer satisfaction and system reliability.
- 2Analyze event logs and transient records to diagnose FACTS system maloperations and equipment failures.
- 3Direct commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities on FACTS systems, reviewing site plans and providing technical direction.
- 4Develop and analyze maintenance programs and testing procedures to maximize availability of FACTS installations.
- 5Perform field work including testing, commissioning, and servicing high voltage substation equipment.
- 6Define specifications for FACTS FSC systems through detailed trade studies.
- 7Support the Tendering team with technical insights and procurement specifications for FACTS devices.
- 8Review site reports and provide engineering insights to improve future project outcomes.
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related field.
- 25+ years of progressive experience in FACTS and high voltage power systems engineering.
- 3Experience with PLC programming, protection relay testing, and setting analysis.
- 4Proficiency in troubleshooting FACTS equipment using event recording, COMTRADE analysis software, and substation test equipment.
- 5Hands-on commissioning and maintenance of high voltage substation equipment, including circuit breakers, transformers, and switchgears.
- 6Skilled in event log and COMTRADE analysis to diagnose system issues.
- 7Ability to run power system simulations to analyze failures and propose solutions.
- 8Proficiency in PLC controls and related troubleshooting.
- 9Legal authorization to work in the United States.
- 10Willingness to travel 20% domestically and internationally.
