Civil/Structural Engineering Manager - Electrical Substations
Overview
You lead the civil engineering team for Grid Solutions Integration NAM, covering ACS, FACTS, Service, and HVDC segments. You own resource planning, project execution, and design quality across high-voltage substation EPC projects. You coordinate with engineering managers, subdisciplines, and contractors, ensuring on-time delivery and budget adherence. Your hands-on role includes detailed design and technical review, with direct accountability for KPIs like OTD and cost of poor quality. What You'll Do9
- 1Lead a team of civil engineers, overseeing design assignments, subdisciplines, and contractors for high-voltage substation projects.
- 2Allocate resources and approve design subcontractors to align workload and optimize design budgets.
- 3Guide design strategy and deliverables from project launch through execution, ensuring code compliance and safety.
- 4Drive on-time delivery and budget adherence, tracking OTD, schedule adherence, and technical change orders.
- 5Conduct regular team meetings and performance reviews, coaching engineers and implementing development plans.
- 6Support proposal teams with engineering scope, labor hours, and execution plans based on customer RFP and standards.
- 7Manage technical interfaces with suppliers and partners, ensuring consistency of inputs and deliverables.
- 8Implement Lean methods and EHS leadership, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and zero deviation.
- 9Retain talent through recognition and coaching, and plan succession for senior engineers.
Requirements10
- 115+ years of experience with high voltage substation civil/structural design, including EPC projects.
- 25+ years leading a substation civil engineering team.
- 3Professional Engineering License in the United States, willing to review and seal drawings.
- 4Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
- 5Ability and willingness to travel 20% of the time, including international, per company policies.
- 65+ years managing civil engineers, including resource loading, performance reviews, recruiting, and salary planning.
- 7In-depth knowledge of US/Canada utility design and construction standards and industry codes.
- 8Experience with Substation 3D design including BIM (Revit) models.
- 9Project management experience on power systems EPC projects.
- 10Fluent in English, with presentation skills to communicate complex messages.
