Lead Automotive Technician/Shop Foreman
Overview
You will own daily shop operations and vehicle diagnostics at a busy Charlotte auto repair center. Your team of mechanics depends on you to assign work, validate repairs, and keep bay throughput high. You will work directly on engines, transmissions, and electrical systems, using automotive diagnostics tools to zero in on faults. In the first 90 days, your performance sets your pay trajectory, with a base salary of $60K-$70K. This role merges hands-on wrench time with leadership, giving you command of both the workflow and the quality bar.
What You'll Do10
- 1Assign daily work orders and direct mechanical staff to maximize bay utilization.
- 2Diagnose driveability issues using scan tools and multimeters, then prescribe repair plans.
- 3Rebuild or replace engines, transmissions, and electrical components to factory specs.
- 4Operate power tools (impact wrenches, grinders, lifts) safely and efficiently.
- 5Align wheels and adjust suspension geometry per manufacturer tolerances.
- 6Log every repair, part number, and labor hour in the shop management system.
- 7Mentor junior techs on diagnostic methods and repair techniques during live jobs.
- 8Stay current on OEM service bulletins and EV/Hybrid system updates.
- 9Inspect completed work for quality and safety before releasing vehicles.
- 10Coordinate with parts suppliers to ensure parts arrive before scheduled bay time.
Requirements8
- 15+ years as an automotive mechanic with at least 1 year in a lead or supervisory role.
- 2Strong command of OBD-II diagnostics and scan tool data interpretation.
- 3Hands-on experience with diesel engines and heavy-duty components.
- 4Ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for full shifts.
- 5Valid driver's license with a clean record.
- 6Certified by ASE in at least two areas (Engine Repair, Electrical, or Suspension).
- 7Proficiency with power tools and shop equipment.
- 8Proven track record of completing repairs within book time.
