Journeyman Outside Machinist, Shipyard & Marine Propulsion
Overview
You will own the installation, maintenance, and repair of ship propulsion and auxiliary systems on naval and commercial vessels in San Diego. You will work with diesel engines, gas turbines, and steam systems, and troubleshoot complex machinery onboard. What You'll Do9
- 1Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair diesel and gas turbine propulsion systems.
- 2Repair steam systems, including main propulsion and auxiliary boilers.
- 3Overhaul pumps, compressors, purifiers, and heat exchangers.
- 4Disassemble and reassemble shipboard machinery to mil-spec tolerances.
- 5Conduct operational tests to verify system performance and safety.
- 6Read blueprints and repair manuals to guide all work.
- 7Use micrometers and calipers to measure clearances and alignments.
- 8Support equipment installations on U.S. Navy and commercial ships.
- 9Work independently while following safety protocols.
Requirements9
- 17+ years of journeyman marine or naval shipyard experience.
- 2Experience with ship propulsion and auxiliary machinery.
- 3Read technical drawings and repair manuals.
- 4Proficient with precision measuring tools and mechanical hand tools.
- 518 years or older.
- 6Eligible for military base access.
- 7Preferred: marine hydraulics experience.
- 8Preferred: marine refrigeration experience.
- 9Preferred: prior U.S. Navy or military mechanical experience.
