Marine Systems Support Engineer, Naval Propulsion
Overview
Own technical authority for GE Vernova systems aboard Royal Canadian Navy vessels, bridging field ops and engineering design. You will split time between hands-on troubleshooting at the shipyard and managing system obsolescence and design modifications. Partner with naval technical authorities to ensure fleet readiness. This role offers direct impact on naval vessel reliability and safety.
What You'll Do10
- 1Provide on-site technical guidance for PLC-based propulsion and power systems during sea trials and dockside repairs.
- 2Partner with design engineering teams to deliver field insights that shape future CAD-based product designs and serviceability.
- 3Monitor component lifecycles, identify End-of-Life (EOL) hardware and software, and implement mitigation plans to maintain system integrity.
- 4Draft and manage Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) using CAD software, reviewing technical specs for system-level integration.
- 5Conduct root cause analysis on persistent failures and translate findings into formal design improvements.
- 6Maintain shipboard systems to the latest "as-maintained" standard, ensuring compliance with DND safety and regulatory requirements.
- 7Execute planned maintenance routines and provide technical guidance to naval staff on lifecycle management.
- 8Document service records and technical reports to GE Vernova and DND standards.
- 9Adhere to maritime safety and security protocols, including controlled goods and Secret clearance standards.
- 10Liaise with RCN engineers and shipyard contractors on system performance and upgrade paths.
Requirements10
- 1Degree or Diploma in Marine, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent military training).
- 25+ years in field service with marine propulsion or industrial power generation, blending field service and design experience.
- 35+ years understanding naval vessel operations or experience in military/government maritime environments.
- 45+ years with PLC programming, control systems, and high-voltage power distribution.
- 5Working knowledge of maritime technical standards and configuration management principles.
- 6Eligible to obtain and maintain Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and Level II (Secret) clearance.
- 7Proven ability to work independently in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments.
- 8Excellent interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- 9Preferred: Experience with Canadian naval procurement or maintenance contracts (e.g., ISSC).
- 10Preferred: Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical certificate or ability to obtain one.
