Houston Program Coordinator, STEM Education & Community Outreach
Overview
The HTX Program Coordinator owns local implementation of STEM programs across Houston, including after school clubs, summer camps, and the annual Girls in STEM Conference. They directly manage a team of STEM CREW program leaders, partner with school districts and community stakeholders, and support funding and expansion efforts. This role operates from the Girlstart office in Houston, Texas, with some remote flexibility and requires in-person presence for events and site visits. What makes this role distinct is the blend of operations management and frontline program delivery, offering hands-on impact in STEM education.
What You'll Do10
- 1Hire, train, and supervise STEM CREW front-line staff, reviewing biweekly payroll and providing ongoing feedback.
- 2Coordinate program logistics for all Houston-area programming, including registration, parent communication, attendance tracking, and surveys.
- 3Facilitate strong partnerships among schools, community organizations, STEM CREW, and Girlstart.
- 4Manage Girlstart Houston office operations, including supplies, volunteer supervision, and day-to-day administrative tasks.
- 5Deliver and support in-person programming, including after school clubs, summer camps, and community events.
- 6Represent Girlstart at Houston-area recruitment events, luncheons, and networking gatherings.
- 7Expand Girlstart's presence by building relationships with new school districts and scouting new program locations.
- 8Support the engagement team in securing new and renewed gifts from donors and funders.
- 9Collaborate with national Girlstart colleagues to align Houston programs with organizational goals.
- 10Contribute to strategic plan goals and assist with special projects as needed.
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor's degree or related experience in youth programming or informal STEM education.
- 22+ years of proven success in planning and implementing quality youth programming.
- 3Ability to supervise, motivate, train, and coach college-age STEM staff.
- 4Willingness to learn HR systems for hiring and onboarding.
- 5Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
- 6Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- 7Self-motivated team player with a track record of meeting deadlines.
- 8Reliable transportation and ability to drive to programs and events.
- 9Experience with Google Suite, Zoom, and remote team collaboration.
- 10Flexible schedule including some nights and weekends, plus ability to lift 10 lbs.
