What You'll Do9

  • 1Accession all tissue specimens and embed them into cassettes, ensuring correct labeling and tracking.
  • 2Gross and submit low-complexity tissues under direction, following protocols for Hematoxylin and Eosin staining readiness.
  • 3Perform frozen sections at designated sites, mounting and staining slides for rapid diagnosis.
  • 4Hang tissue on Tissue Processors in proper order and cycle, optimizing reagent exposure.
  • 5Select specimens for grossing based on pathologist instructions and case complexity.
  • 6Photograph specimens using Polaroid, Digital, and 35mm cameras for documentation.
  • 7Prepare tissue for external testing such as Lymphoma Phenotyping and Quantitative Iron Studies, ensuring proper fixation and packaging.
  • 8Maintain reagent inventory and prepare routine solutions, including Xylene recycling and hazardous waste disposal per safety guidelines.
  • 9Review procedure manuals quarterly and implement updates, adhering to CLIA-88 high complexity testing standards.

Requirements7

  • 1Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or 60 semester hours including 24 semester hours of medical lab technology or science courses (with 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours combined).
  • 2Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved by ABHES, CAHEA, or HHS, or 3 months documented training in each high complexity testing specialty.
  • 31+ year of healthcare environment job-related experience.
  • 4Qualified as high complexity testing personnel under CLIA-88 regulations.
  • 5Proficiency in Polaroid and 35mm photography for specimen documentation.
  • 6Knowledge of hazardous waste handling including Xylene recycling and disposal of Formaldehyde and B5.
  • 7Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds for specimen transport and reagent restocking.
