Overview

This role prepares slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists at Quest Diagnostics, owning the full histology workflow from accessioning to staining. You'll work Monday to Friday, 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM, in White Plains, NY, with a pay range of $32.36 - $53.40 per hour. The lab processes high volumes of tissue samples, requiring precision in embedding, microtomy, and staining. What You'll Do9

  • 1Perform routine and non-routine slide preparation activities for pathologist evaluation, ensuring proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples.
  • 2Operate Tissue-Tek processors to embed tissue in paraffin and perform microtomy on Leica microtomes.
  • 3Prepare slides for routine Hematoxylin and Eosin staining and perform cover slipping manually or with Tissue-Tek automated coverslippers.
  • 4Prepare solutions and reagents for special stain procedures, validating tissue controls for PAS, Masson's Trichrome, and other stains.
  • 5Execute all special stain procedures, ensuring accurate staining and troubleshooting any issues.
  • 6May prepare reagents and control materials for IHC procedures on Ventana or Dako platforms, and perform IHC testing.
  • 7File finished blocks and slides securely, maintaining chain of custody for CLIA and CAP audits.
  • 8Perform routine maintenance on Leica, Sakura, and Tissue-Tek equipment, troubleshooting minor failures and documenting remedial actions.
  • 9Adhere to quality control policies, documenting all activities and ensuring compliance with local, federal, CLIA, and CAP regulations.

Requirements8

  • 1AA or AS degree in histotechnology or equivalent training and experience.
  • 21-3 years experience as a Histotechnician.
  • 3HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification required.
  • 4Proficiency in microtomy, embedding, and routine H&E staining.
  • 5Experience with special stains such as PAS, Trichrome, and Iron stains.
  • 6Knowledge of IHC procedures and Ventana or Dako autostainers.
  • 7Understanding of CLIA and CAP regulations, with documentation and quality control practices.
  • 8Ability to work 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM shift, Monday to Friday.
