Food Unit Lead, Campus Dining Operations
Overview
You will run daily food service operations at CSU Northridge, coordinating a team to serve 1,000+ students and faculty across five locations. You will own staff scheduling, food quality, and sanitation compliance from day one. This role combines hands-on service with back-of-house leadership, reporting to the general manager. You'll gain OSHA and ServSafe training while working a set Monday-Friday schedule.
What You'll Do10
- 1Coordinate daily food preparation and service across five campus locations, maintaining HACCP standards.
- 2Train and supervise 10-15 food service employees on presentation, portion control, and sanitation procedures.
- 3Plan weekly menus with the chef, balancing cost, availability, and student preferences.
- 4Respond to customer complaints in person and via email, resolving issues within 24 hours.
- 5Prepare daily cash and inventory reports using POS systems and spreadsheets.
- 6Order food and supplies from approved vendors, verifying deliveries against invoices.
- 7Develop and enforce a cleaning schedule for kitchen and dining areas, ensuring OSHA compliance.
- 8Issue written and oral instructions to staff, clarifying duties and performance expectations.
- 9Handle cash deposits and petty cash according to the Food Accounting Manual.
- 10Conduct orientation for new hires, pairing them with experienced staff for shadowing.
Requirements7
- 11-2 years leading food service operations in a high-volume setting.
- 21 year supervising staff, including scheduling and training.
- 3ServSafe or Food Handler certification within 30 days of hire.
- 4Experience with POS systems and cash handling procedures.
- 5High school diploma or equivalent.
- 6Ability to lift 25 pounds and stand for 8-hour shifts.
- 7Open availability between 7:00 AM and 10:00 PM for scheduling.
