Estimating Manager, Commercial Construction
Overview
You own the estimating function for commercial construction projects in Dallas, Texas, delivering accurate bids on multimillion-dollar builds. Reporting to the preconstruction director, you work alongside a team of 5 estimators and coordinate with trade partners to validate scopes and pricing. You bridge field operations and preconstruction, using Lens, Revit, and ASE to model costs and drive decisions. This role distinguishes itself by giving you ownership of bid strategy and direct influence on project pursuit, from first walkthrough to final proposal.
What You'll Do8
- 1Build complete cost models for commercial construction bids, using Lens and Revit to translate drawings into accurate quantity surveys.
- 2Lead bid day coordination, assembling final proposals and presenting cost breakdowns to leadership.
- 3Develop General Requirement estimates, accounting for field overhead, staffing, and logistics.
- 4Drive quantity takeoffs with Excel macros and ASE to ensure precision in material and labor estimates.
- 5Partner with trade partners to validate subcontractor scopes, pricing, and exclusions, resolving gaps before submission.
- 6Refine estimating templates and cost databases, leveraging Lean principles to cut waste and improve accuracy.
- 7Support field operations by comparing estimated vs. actual performance, feeding lessons learned back into future bids.
- 8Present estimate summaries and risk analysis to executives, translating technical data into clear recommendations.
Requirements8
- 13+ years in commercial construction estimating, with a preference for 5+ years total construction experience.
- 2Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field (preferred).
- 3Intermediate proficiency in MS Office, with strong Excel skills for cost modeling and data analysis.
- 4Intermediate ability to read drawings and specifications, including architectural and structural plans.
- 5Intermediate proficiency in construction estimating software, such as Lens, Revit, or ASE.
- 6Knowledge of construction methods, field operations, and self-perform labor productivity.
- 7Ability to conduct effective presentations and build relationships with trade partners and team members.
- 8Familiarity with Lean process and philosophy, applying continuous improvement to estimation workflows.
