Electrical Service Technician - Marine & Industrial Systems
Overview
You will own electrical service for marine and industrial systems across New York, working with 3-phase motors, generators, and switchboards at $35-$40/hr. You'll join a 5-person field team reporting to the service manager, with TWIC credential sponsorship available. This role stands out for its mix of hands-on troubleshooting, automation, and supervisory duties, with occasional travel.
What You'll Do10
- 1Wire and troubleshoot 3-phase motors, generators, and switchboards on cargo ships and industrial sites
- 2Configure motor starters and start/stop systems to spec
- 3Maintain steering systems, alarms, and automation panels
- 4Install and repair Xenox fixtures and grounding systems
- 5Test circuits with multi-meters, amp meters, and megger testers
- 6Terminate power and control wiring, and read one-line diagrams
- 7Diagnose pump failures and complete on-site mechanical repairs
- 8Supervise 2-3 apprentices on daily tasks and safety checks
- 9Coordinate small projects, track parts, and update service logs
- 10Respond to on-call outages within 7-day windows and travel to other ports
Requirements10
- 13+ years field experience in electrical service, ideally marine or industrial
- 2High School diploma or GED
- 3Valid TWIC card or ability to acquire it pre-hire
- 4Current driver's license
- 5Pass background check and drug screening
- 6Read and interpret one-line electrical drawings
- 7Skilled with multi-meters, amp meters, and megger testers
- 8Know 3-phase motor controls and NEC code basics
- 9Lift 50 lbs, work outdoors in all weather, and climb ladders to 25 feet
- 10Available for rotating on-call shifts
