Director of Facilities, Semiconductor & Cleanroom Operations
Overview
You will own the physical infrastructure and site operations for Neurophos's first testing and product facility in Austin, TX. This role covers a multi-million-dollar building, specialized equipment installs, and full EHS compliance. You'll lead vendors, contractors, and a safety culture across all site activities. Working directly with the CFO, you'll shape the facility from fit-out to full operation. This is a chance to build the backbone for a startup redefining AI compute with silicon photonics.
What You'll Do10
- 1Direct end-to-end execution of multi-million-dollar building improvements and greenfield site expansions.
- 2Own general contractors, architectural/engineering firms, MEP contractors, and trade specialists from design review through commissioning.
- 3Manage facility budgets, master schedules, permitting, and site delivery milestones.
- 4Oversee construction and validation of cleanrooms, electro-optical test environments, and metrology spaces.
- 5Manage critical utilities: high-capacity power, dedicated DC supplies, process cooling water, bulk gases, and DI water systems.
- 6Lead physical layout, space planning, rigging, and MEP hookups for high-precision capital equipment.
- 7Partner with equipment vendors to design and execute factory and site acceptance tests.
- 8Build and lead the site EHS program, ensuring OSHA, EPA, and local code compliance.
- 9Establish hazardous material protocols and oversee laser safety for Class 4 labs.
- 10Drive preventive maintenance for HVAC, continuous power, backup generators, and process cooling.
Requirements10
- 110+ years in facilities management within high-tech hardware, semiconductor, microelectronics, or cleanroom manufacturing.
- 2Proven track record managing greenfield facility fit-outs with multi-million-dollar budgets.
- 3Deep technical knowledge of cleanroom environments, precision HVAC, bulk N2/DI water systems, and hazardous chemical security.
- 4Experience managing general contractors, MEP engineers, trades, and municipal inspection teams.
- 5Strong knowledge of local building codes, zoning, and environmental permitting.
- 6Direct experience leading Health & Safety programs with accountability for workplace safety and chemical management.
- 7Exposure to high-precision optical and micro-electronic packaging, including free-space sub-assemblies and active alignment.
- 8Preferred: Professional certification in facilities management or safety.
- 9Preferred: Experience with laser/optics labs and ESD-sensitive environments.
- 10Preferred: Scaling facilities from greenfield to fully operational NPI centers.
