Overview

You will own the Network-wide Environmental and Safety Management program for Hackensack Meridian Health, covering all hospitals, long-term care, ambulatory care, and home care locations. You will lead a team of safety specialists and coordinate with the Environment of Care Committee to standardize best practices across the network. You will directly support the Vice President of Environmental Health & Safety and drive regulatory compliance with OSHA, NJDEP, and The Joint Commission. This role also includes managing fire safety, hazardous materials, and construction safety programs, plus overseeing data management and analytics to improve safety outcomes.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Chair the Environment of Care Committee and submit monthly reports on findings, recommendations, and actions taken.
  • 2Coordinate all Safety Committees and related structures, ensuring agendas meet regulatory requirements.
  • 3Review and standardize environmental health and safety programs, policies, and procedures across the network.
  • 4Oversee safe storage, transportation, and disposal of wastes, including selection of disposal contractors.
  • 5Conduct hazard surveillance, incident investigations, and fire safety program implementation.
  • 6Develop and implement the Biological/Hazardous Material Shipping Program and manage the SARA TitleII/Right-to-Know Program.
  • 7Lead preparation for regulatory surveys, including Joint Commission PPR for Environment of Care.
  • 8Provide developmental guidance and training to safety staff, including on-the-job training on OSHA, NJDEP, and The Joint Commission standards.
  • 9Take a leadership role in construction-related safety, including ICRA and interim life safety measures.
  • 10Manage and oversee departmental staff, including hiring, training, evaluation, and termination.

Requirements5

  • 18+ years in the safety profession, or 6+ years in hospital safety in a supervisory/managerial role, or 7+ years in hospital safety in any capacity.
  • 2Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Health Science, or related field.
  • 3Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • 4Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • 5Preferred: Master's degree in Environmental Health Science or related field.
