Department Manager, Mechanical Facilities Design
Overview
Lead the Mechanical Department for facilities design at a global engineering firm with a people-first, employee-owned culture. Oversee technical and administrative supervision, ensure design quality, and manage budgets and staffing in a collaborative environment. Drive business development support and client outcomes through sustainable, compliant mechanical systems. What You'll Do10
- 1Build and coordinate project priorities, workload planning, and staff assignments to meet schedule and budget targets
- 2Direct daily supervision of department members and monitor resource loading to optimize utilization
- 3Ensure quality control of work produced by the department and adherence to organization standards and procedures
- 4Assist with hiring, salaries, promotions, transfers, and terminations while supporting staff development
- 5Support Group Manager in financial KPIs, project performance, and training opportunities
- 6Collaborate with project managers and senior staff to pursue business development and marketing activities
- 7Oversee project assignments to ensure on-time, on-budget completion and successful project delivery
- 8When appropriate, act as Project Manager for key department projects
- 9Perform other duties delegated by the Group Manager
- 10Contribute to continuous improvement through design control procedures and technical guides
Requirements9
- 1Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college
- 210+ years of relevant facility design experience
- 3PE license required
- 4Experience designing HVAC systems, plumbing systems, central utility plants, and mechanical distribution systems
- 5Experience using Trane Trace, Revit, Pipe-Flo, COMcheck, and/or BLCC software
- 6Experience performing energy modeling and life cycle cost analysis
- 7Experience design of industrial and/or federal facilities
- 8LEED AP BD+C credential and/or GBI Guiding Principles Compliance
- 9Professional certifications such as AEE Certified Energy Manager or AABC Certified Commissioning Authority may be beneficial
