Data Center Technician, Cloud Operations & Innovation
Overview
Provides hands-on support for preparing, installing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and decommissioning data center equipment at scale across Microsoft Cloud Operations & Innovation CO+I. Works with cabling, network, server, and storage components and contributes to process improvements. Collaborates with fellow technicians and handling 12-hour shifts including non-standard hours and travel as needed. This role emphasizes safety, documentation, and on-the-job training to grow into more advanced technical responsibilities.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build and execute hardware startups and shutdowns for racks, switches, and storage per checklists and standard processes
- 2Design and perform basic diagnostics to identify component failures with guidance from experienced technicians
- 3Own incident communication and escalation for data center technical or safety issues to direct-line management
- 4Ship and decommission IT datacenter equipment following safety procedures and Network Design Templates
- 5Drive adherence to KPIs and improve ticket handling efficiency through collaboration with other shifts
- 6Learn and apply data center processes for deployment, break-fix, decommission, and environmental health and safety requirements
- 7Assist in handovers between shifts to ensure smooth transitions and knowledge transfer
- 8Support security and data management training and comply with related procedures
- 9Assist third-party vendors or IT support staff on-site while maintaining safety and access controls
- 10Participate in regular safety briefings and contribute to a culture of safety and continuous improvement
Requirements5
- 1High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components
- 21+ year experience supporting IT equipment or related technology
- 3Ability to meet Microsoft Cloud Background Check and security screening requirements
- 4Authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
- 5Willingness to travel up to 25% domestically and work 12-hour shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
