CVICU Travel RN, Cardiovascular Intensive Care
Overview
You will own critical care for post-cardiac surgery and intervention patients in a teaching hospital's CVICU, with ratios of 1:1-2. You will titrate cardiac drips, manage Swan-Ganz catheters, and support patients on IABP and ventilators. The team uses Epic EMR and expects a 2+ year cardiac ICU background. This 13-week night contract offers 36 hours weekly with rotating weekends and holidays, plus a clear pathway for travel nurses ready to float across equivalent acuity units.
What You'll Do8
- 1Deliver direct care to CVICU patients, including post-cardiac surgery and catheterization cases, managing arterial lines, central lines, and ventilator settings.
- 2Titrate cardiac drips (e.g., amiodarone, nitroglycerin, epinephrine) based on hemodynamic parameters and provider orders.
- 3Monitor telemetry and interpret rhythms, responding to changes with appropriate interventions.
- 4Insert and manage Swan-Ganz catheters for pulmonary artery pressure monitoring and cardiac output calculations.
- 5Provide conscious sedation during bedside procedures, ensuring patient safety and recovery.
- 6Float to units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed, maintaining flexibility across the health system.
- 7Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in Epic EMR within 90 days of start.
- 8Coordinate with the interdisciplinary team to plan discharges, including patient education on medications and lifestyle changes.
Requirements9
- 12+ years of cardiac ICU experience in a CVICU setting, with 1:1-2 patient ratios.
- 2Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration.
- 3Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred.
- 4Epic EMR experience required; teaching hospital experience preferred.
- 5Skills in IV starts, telemetry, ventilator management, Swan-Ganz monitoring, conscious sedation, intra-aortic balloon pump, arterial line management, central line care, and cardiac drip titration.
- 6Graduation from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program.
- 72 professional references required, including one from a Manager/Director/Supervisor and one from a Charge RN or higher; coworker references not accepted.
- 8RTO (requested time off) submitted with initial contract, limited to 7 days or less.
- 9Ability to complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements promptly after signing contract.
