Controls Technician - Electrical | Amentum
Overview
You will own installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting for electrical and controls systems across a critical federal facility in McLean, VA. As a Controls Technician with a Journeyman Electrical License, you will service chillers, boilers, turbine generators, incinerators, and HVAC equipment. You will work with PLC ladder logic, DDC controls, VFDs, and motor control centers. Your team operates on a Monday-Friday 1:30 PM-10:00 PM schedule, with training hours from 5:30 AM-2:00 PM. You will report directly to the E&C Engineer and support mission-critical operations around the clock.
What You'll Do9
- 1Read and interpret electrical schematics, loop diagrams, control logics, mechanical drawings, and P&IDs to identify and fix system faults.
- 2Troubleshoot both mechanical and electrical sides of systems, from chillers to boilers and HVAC units.
- 3Program and troubleshoot ladder logic for PLC and hard-wired relay control systems.
- 4Calibrate, tune, and perform predictive maintenance on electronic and electropneumatic instruments and end elements.
- 5Modify DDC system parameters, perform data base changes, and review alarm logs on microprocessor-based central control systems.
- 6Maintain as-built logic diagrams and documentation for all assigned systems, updating records after each change.
- 7Perform startup and checkout of newly installed E&C systems, ensuring operational readiness before turnover.
- 8Direct repair personnel and provide technical support to the E&C Engineer as needed.
- 9Support safety protocols, including NFPA-70E training and use of personal protective equipment.
Requirements10
- 15+ years working experience in electrical, industrial electronics, and electro-pneumatics, with 2+ years in maintenance and repair of commercial/industrial building equipment.
- 2Journeyman Electrical License required.
- 32+ years experience working with 120VAC systems.
- 4Hands-on experience in calibration and maintenance of electronic or electropneumatic control system equipment.
- 5Proficiency in reading and troubleshooting ladder logic from a computer terminal.
- 6Working knowledge of PLC programming and DDC controls.
- 7Experience repairing and troubleshooting motor control centers and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- 8Ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Security Clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
- 9High school diploma or equivalent (technical school or apprenticeship preferred).
- 10Willingness to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
