Controls Engineering Technician, PLC & Automation
Overview
You'll own installation, troubleshooting, and optimization of automation systems at Union Factory 1, a state-of-the-art defense manufacturing site backed by $50M in funding. As Controls Engineering Technician, you'll support PLC-based systems, HMIs, and industrial automation equipment, working closely with the Staff Electrical and Control Engineer. This role combines hands-on electrical work with cross-functional collaboration to ensure reliable, safe operations. You'll make an immediate impact in a fast-growing company redefining American manufacturing.
What You'll Do10
- 1Support installation, wiring, and commissioning of PLC-based control systems, HMIs, and industrial automation equipment.
- 2Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and controls issues on manufacturing equipment, reducing downtime.
- 3Perform routine maintenance and diagnostics on control systems, sensors, drives, and instrumentation.
- 4Debug and modify PLC programs under the direction of Controls Engineers.
- 5Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
- 6Build and modify electrical panels and control systems to spec.
- 7Integrate control systems with MES, ERP, and data collection systems.
- 8Maintain and update controls documentation, including wiring diagrams, I/O lists, and system configurations.
- 9Conduct system checks to ensure proper operation of automation equipment during startups and testing.
- 10Follow all safety procedures including lockout/tagout and electrical safety requirements.
Requirements10
- 1High school diploma or equivalent.
- 22-5 years of electrical experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- 3Demonstrated troubleshooting skills for industrial motor circuits and basic controls.
- 4Strong understanding of electrical systems and industrial controls.
- 5Basic knowledge of PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent).
- 6Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- 7Familiarity with industrial network protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, etc.).
- 8Experience with sensors, drives, and instrumentation.
- 9Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- 10Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
