CNC Vertical Machinist Lead, Second Shift
Overview
You will own second-shift production at a high-precision machine shop serving semiconductor and medical device makers, where tolerances are measured in microns. Lead a team of CNC machinists, coordinate workflow, and step in as acting supervisor when needed. You will provide hands-on support with CNC setups, tooling changes, and first-article inspections using ISO and AS9100 quality standards. This role offers paid training and a clear path to CNC setup and programming roles.
What You'll Do9
- 1Oversee all second-shift production activities to meet daily schedules, quality standards, and customer requirements.
- 2Perform CNC machine setups, tooling changes, offset adjustments, and first-article inspections.
- 3Assign jobs per the production plan, set priorities, and monitor workflow to meet on-time delivery.
- 4Act as acting supervisor when the Production Supervisor is unavailable, making operational and staffing decisions.
- 5Lead, coach, and support a team of CNC machinists, fostering accountability and a safety-conscious culture.
- 6Identify and resolve quality issues in coordination with Quality Assurance, ensuring compliance with ISO and AS9100.
- 7Drive continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing practices to boost productivity and quality.
- 8Enforce safety protocols, conduct shift-start meetings, and maintain a clean, hazard-free work environment.
- 9Document shift activities, production issues, and metrics; provide clear handoffs to other shifts.
Requirements9
- 11-3 years of experience in a manufacturing, machine shop, or precision machining environment.
- 2Hands-on experience with CNC machines is strongly preferred.
- 3Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and customer specifications.
- 4Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a high-precision environment.
- 5Familiarity with cosmetic grading standards and surface-finishing best practices.
- 6Ability to prioritize work and make sound operational decisions under pressure.
- 7Proven leadership and communication skills to direct a team.
- 8High School Diploma or equivalent; vocational training in machining is a plus.
- 9Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand or sit for extended periods.
