CNC Supervisor Swing Shift - Aerospace Manufacturing
Overview
You will own the swing shift at a 150+ machine aerospace manufacturing group, ensuring machinists hit production targets and quality standards. You will lead and mentor a team of operators and machinists across CNC milling, turning, and secondary operations in a hands-on role. The position sits at our Chatsworth, CA site, collaborating with Engineering, Programming, and Quality teams. Unlike large firms, this role gives you direct ownership of shift outcomes and real visibility into mission-critical programs. You will drive AS9100 compliance and continuous improvement, with a stable, flat team of 250+ professionals.
What You'll Do9
- 1Act as the primary point of contact for machinists and support departments during the swing shift, resolving issues as they arise.
- 2Lead machinists and operators to hit daily production goals, providing CNC guidance and coaching on setup and operation.
- 3Oversee setup and operation of 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis CNC milling and turning equipment, troubleshooting problems in real time.
- 4Coordinate with engineering and programming teams to interpret part prints and setup instructions for accurate execution.
- 5Verify machined parts meet print tolerances using micrometers, calipers, and GD&T inspection methods.
- 6Track production status, shift handoffs, and reporting in the Global Shop ERP system, ensuring accurate data entry.
- 7Maintain tooling, inserts, and materials inventory, and secure equipment at shift end.
- 8Enforce AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality standards and safety practices on the floor.
- 9Drive continuous improvement initiatives to boost machine utilization and process efficiency.
Requirements9
- 15+ years hands-on CNC machining experience, including setup and operation of multi-axis mills or lathes.
- 2Demonstrated leadership in a production environment, with ability to train and motivate others.
- 3Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose machining issues in real time.
- 4Familiarity with ERP systems like Global Shop or JobBoss for work order tracking.
- 5Knowledge of GD&T and ability to read complex aerospace blueprints.
- 6Basic understanding of AS9100 and ISO 9001 requirements.
- 7Proficiency with inspection tools: micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges.
- 8Ability to work independently and prioritize in a fast-paced setting.
- 9Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, focusing on teamwork.
