Overview

You will program and operate 3-axis and 5-axis CNC mills in a small, tight-knit shop where everyone is hands-on. You'll own machining tasks from setup to finished part, keeping multiple machines running. As you prove out, you'll expand into lathe and EDM work. This role stands out because you'll work autonomously, with flexible hours and profit sharing.

What You'll Do8

  • 1Program CNC mills using MasterCam for 3-axis and 5-axis parts, translating shop drawings into precise toolpaths.
  • 2Set up and operate multiple CNC mills concurrently, managing tooling, workholding, and offsets without supervision.
  • 3Calculate feeds and speeds for each operation, adjusting to material and tooling to hit quality and cycle time targets.
  • 4Read and interpret shop drawings, verifying dimensions and tolerances before and during machining.
  • 5Monitor machines for maintenance and safety issues, addressing them promptly to prevent downtime.
  • 6Maintain a clean and organized work area, following 5S principles to support efficient workflow.
  • 7Lift 25+ lbs, push heavy carts or crates, and stretch, reach, kneel, or crawl as needed for setups and material handling.
  • 8Expand into lathe and EDM machining as experience allows, supporting a versatile production team.

Requirements8

  • 15+ years operating a CNC mill (lathe experience is a plus).
  • 22+ years programming CNC mills with MasterCam preferred.
  • 3Solid understanding of G-code and ability to edit programs at the machine.
  • 4Able to calculate feeds and speeds, select tooling, and set up jobs independently.
  • 5Knowledge of material grades and machinability for common steels, aluminum, and plastics.
  • 6Skilled at reading shop drawings with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • 7Physically capable of lifting 25+ lbs and performing tasks requiring bending, reaching, and kneeling.
  • 8Proven ability to manage multiple machines while maintaining quality and safety standards.
