CNC Lathe Machinist, Axis Setup & Programming
Overview
Own axis CNC lathe setup and operation for precision plastic components at a high-volume manufacturer. You will set up, edit, and run CNC programs to hit tight tolerances and production targets. Work with a tight-knit team of machinists and supervisors to solve process issues. This role values hands-on skill and continuous improvement, not just pushing a button.
What You'll Do10
- 1Set up axis CNC lathe machines for repeat production jobs using process sheets and proven procedures.
- 2Edit, upload, and retrieve CNC programs to adapt to job specifications and machine quirks.
- 3Read blueprints and sketches to confirm part geometry and dimensions before cutting.
- 4Inspect finished parts with micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and comparators; log results.
- 5Flag and document non-conforming parts to keep quality gates tight.
- 6Hit production schedules and cycle times by optimizing cutter paths and spindle speeds.
- 7Update MRP and production records accurately after every run.
- 8Coordinate with supervisors and team members to fix root-cause issues on the floor.
- 9Perform secondary operations and hand-finishing to meet finish specs.
- 10Maintain a clean 5S workspace and follow safety protocols without exception.
Requirements9
- 13+ years of hands-on CNC lathe setup and operation.
- 2Strong working knowledge of CNC programming, editing, and formatting.
- 3Proven ability to read blueprints and technical drawings with GD&T symbols.
- 4Precision measurement skills using micrometers, calipers, and height gauges.
- 5Solid shop math including fractions, decimals, and metric conversions.
- 6Experience with MRP or manufacturing software packages.
- 7Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of juggling multiple jobs.
- 8Clear verbal and written communication for shift handoffs and reports.
- 9Commitment to continuous improvement and waste reduction on the floor.
Salary Insight
