Overview
You own the checkout experience for every customer at Cosentino's Price Chopper #110 in Peculiar, MO. The cash register and point of sale system are your tools to process transactions accurately, handle cash, and build loyalty. You'll work nights and weekends, reporting to the Front-End Manager. This role combines speed, accuracy, and genuine hospitality. You'll also handle SNAP and WIC payments, keeping service inclusive. Your daily work directly shapes store reputation and customer satisfaction.
What You'll Do10
- 1Master the cash register and point of sale system to process transactions in under 2 minutes each, including cash, check, gift cards, and credit/debit cards.
- 2Handle cash with precision: count money, make change, and balance your drawer at shift end to within $5 variance.
- 3Apply documented procedures for SNAP and WIC transactions to ensure compliance and customer trust.
- 4Greet every customer and answer questions with a smile, resolving issues on the spot.
- 5Identify products by PLU codes and scale weights to ring up produce and bulk items accurately.
- 6Bag merchandise carefully, using proper techniques to protect items and speed up checkout.
- 7Suggest complementary products (e.g., chips with salsa) to boost basket size by 5-10%.
- 8Keep your checkout area clean, sanitized, and stocked with bags, receipts, and food safety supplies.
- 9Step in to train new cashiers when the Office Manager or Store Director asks, sharing your point of sale tips.
- 10Complete Cosentino's Learning Plan modules on schedule to sharpen cash handling and service skills.
Requirements10
- 1General knowledge of cash handling procedures, including counting cash and making change.
- 2Working knowledge of cash register operation, including touchscreen or keypad entry.
- 3Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service in a retail setting.
- 4General math skills to calculate totals, discounts, and change quickly.
- 5Clear communication skills to interact with customers and team members.
- 6Ability to multitask while maintaining speed and accuracy during peak hours.
- 7High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 8Physical stamina: stand and walk on hard floors for up to 8 hours, lift 30 lbs to 36 inches, and reach overhead.
- 9Weekend and night availability is required.
- 10Liquor license or food handler permit within 14 days of start, as county requires.
