Cable Technician, Low-Voltage & Fiber Optic
Overview
You'll install and maintain low-voltage cabling systems for apartment renovations, office environments, and data center build-outs across Salt Lake City and surrounding states. Work with Cat6, fiber optics, and fusion splicing, with weekly travel as projects demand. Your work keeps networks running for commercial and residential clients. This long-term contract role offers variety across sites and a steady project pipeline.
What You'll Do8
- 1Install, route, and terminate Cat5 and Cat6 cabling in commercial, residential, and mixed-use projects.
- 2Perform fiber optic installation and complete fusion splicing for reliable network connectivity.
- 3Assemble network racks, mount hardware, and complete server rack build-outs to site specs.
- 4Troubleshoot cabling and network issues, identify faults, and restore performance quickly with minimal disruption.
- 5Support access control and video surveillance by placing, connecting, and testing devices and cabling.
- 6Work in elevated spaces using ladders or lifts above 6 feet, following safety standards.
- 7Connect and dress cables in communications rooms, including terminations to switches and network hardware.
- 8Travel to project sites for remodels, new build-outs, and infrastructure deployments, with expenses reimbursed.
Requirements9
- 12+ years hands-on low-voltage cabling or cable technician work.
- 2Proven ability to install and terminate Cat5 and Cat6 in active job sites.
- 3Hands-on experience with fiber optic systems, including fusion splicing and terminations.
- 4Working knowledge of network troubleshooting, distinguishing copper vs. fiber needs.
- 5Experience supporting access control and video surveillance cabling.
- 6Ability to work at heights using ladders or lifts above 6 feet safely.
- 7Availability for frequent travel based on project demands.
- 8Familiarity with communications room work: routing, punch-downs, switch connectivity.
- 9Experience with fusion splicing.
Salary Insight
$46 - $56k per year
