Overview

The Behavioral Health Specialist will provide direct care to psychiatric patients under RN direction at Banner Del Webb Medical Center. They will monitor, assist with ADLs, and participate in milieu management to support safety and therapeutic environment. The role may involve floating to ED or medical units as companion or observer and offers varied shifts with weekend and holiday expectations. This position emphasizes high-touch care in a high-tech behavioral health setting and includes self scheduling and weekend shift differentials.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Build safety monitoring and patient observation routines to support crisis intervention
  • 2Assist in activities of daily living and orient patients to the treatment setting for better engagement
  • 3Document observations and treatments in the patient record while protecting confidentiality
  • 4Maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu and respond to aggression or emergencies with de escalation techniques
  • 5Assist in admission, discharge, and transfer processes with accurate documentation
  • 6Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to plan and facilitate group activities and therapeutic interventions
  • 7Support treatment plans by providing therapeutic interactions with patients and families
  • 8Maintain knowledge of behavioral health symptoms and common psychotropic medications and side effects
  • 9Provide basic nursing care including vital signs and technical monitoring
  • 10Navigate patient care across units with adherence to state regulations and organizational policies

Requirements5

  • 1Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a behavioral health related field or High School diploma with 1 year of direct patient care in an inpatient behavioral health setting
  • 2Experience in inpatient psychiatric facilities and ability to perform activities of daily living
  • 3Knowledge of non-violent de escalation techniques and observation precautions
  • 4Ability to work under moderate supervision and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
  • 5Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification are required
