Assistant Kitchen Manager, Secondary & Food Service
Overview
You lead daily kitchen operations at Mountain Range High School, serving 1,500+ students across multiple lunch periods. You supervise a team of 5-10 kitchen staff, ensuring food quality, safety, and compliance with Health Department Standards. You step in for the kitchen manager, making routine decisions and maintaining smooth service. Your work directly impacts student nutrition and school community trust.
What You'll Do9
- 1Lead kitchen team in daily food production, including batch cooking and replenishing fruit and vegetable bars and condiment stations between lunch periods.
- 2Prepare and verify menu worksheets each day, ensuring accurate portion counts and production records.
- 3Maintain organization of storeroom, refrigerators, and freezers, and manage inventory levels with regular stock checks.
- 4Enforce Health Department compliance, safety procedures, and Nutrition Services SOPs, including temperature logging and food safety checks.
- 5Monitor cash collection from students and staff, and complete end-of-day reconciliation reports.
- 6Implement special dietary procedures as directed, ensuring students with allergies or medical needs receive safe meals.
- 7Assist with ordering and receiving deliveries, checking packing slips, temperatures, and dates, and reporting vendor issues.
- 8Train and mentor kitchen assistants on food safety and service standards, fostering a culture of accountability.
- 9Take over kitchen manager duties during absences, ensuring uninterrupted service and compliance.
Requirements10
- 1High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 21+ years experience in a school meal program or food service management.
- 318 years old or older.
- 4Criminal background check cleared.
- 5Meet National School Lunch Program professional standards, including 12 hours of training for kitchen managers.
- 6Pass a pre-hire physical examination.
- 7Obtain SNA Certification or commitment to complete within first year.
- 8Complete district courses on Progressive Discipline and Classified Evaluation within 1 year of hire.
- 9Obtain a department-approved food safety training certification within 6 months of hire.
- 10Preferred: Experience with large volume food preparation and Nutrition Services training.
