Cook Assistant, School Cafeteria & Food Service
Overview
The Cook Assistant owns meal preparation and kitchen sanitation for a campus serving students and staff, following local, state, and national food safety regulations. This role supports the culinary team and supervises work-based learning students in proper food handling. You will operate dishwashing equipment and maintain dining room and kitchen facilities to ensure a clean, safe environment. The position requires ServSafe certification and offers hands-on experience in a school cafeteria setting.
What You'll Do7
- 1Prepare quantities of food according to the menu and number of students and employees, following local, state, and national food safety regulations.
- 2Serve food and assist in moving and storing supplies.
- 3Adhere to state guidelines for food handling and clean assigned areas.
- 4Clean and maintain the dining room and kitchen facilities, including operating dishwashing equipment.
- 5Inspect and clean service equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- 6Supervise and assist culinary art and work-based learning students in proper food preparation and storage.
- 7Assist in supervising leisure time employees and work-based learning activities.
Requirements7
- 13 months work-related experience in food service or a similar setting (preferred).
- 2Must be ServSafe certified or have the ability to become certified.
- 3Possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- 4Knowledge of safety and sanitation requirements in food preparation and storage.
- 5Working knowledge of kitchen utensils and equipment.
- 6Ability to follow oral and written instructions and establish effective working relationships.
- 7Proficient in MSWord, Excel, and Outlook.
