AmeriCorps Coach | Coach Across America Boston
Overview
You will coach sports teams and run programs for youth in Boston schools, using sports to boost their mental and physical health. You will learn Sports Based Youth Development techniques to guide kids on the field and in the classroom. Work alongside school staff to plan practices, lead recess, and support PE classes. This role includes ongoing training and a community of coaches, making it a unique chance to grow while giving back.
What You'll Do10
- 1Assist PE teachers in class lessons and facilitate structured recess.
- 2Head coach or assistant coach a sports team, developing sport skills by student level.
- 3Work with identified students one-on-one and in small groups to build social-emotional skills using evidence-based strategies.
- 4Implement a behavior management system for students and create a safe play space.
- 5Collaborate with staff to collect surveys and roster information.
- 6Encourage participants to gain life skills through sport using lessons from Coach Across America training.
- 7Perform data collection activities as directed by your Field Manager.
- 8Act as a role model, building trust with youth and the community.
- 9Complete required service hours, attend orientation, and submit bi-weekly timesheets.
- 10Attend community service days and Coach Training Institute.
Requirements7
- 118+ years old and a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident.
- 2High school diploma, GED, or currently working toward one.
- 3Reliable transportation for travel to school sites.
- 4Pass criminal history background checks.
- 5Experience with youth or sports preferred but not required.
- 6Ability to perform all job duties satisfactorily.
- 7Willingness to wear AmeriCorps branded t-shirts during service.
