Youth Development Leader, Afterschool Program
Overview
You will lead a group of elementary-aged children in the Y Club before and after school program in Kansas City, Missouri. You will run crafts, sports, and STEM activities, ensuring safety and positive behavior. You will work with a team of youth development staff and report to the program site director. This role offers flexible part-time hours, free YMCA membership, and training. You will make a direct impact on kids' growth every day.
What You'll Do7
- 1Lead age-appropriate activities: games, arts and crafts, STEM projects, and physical exercise.
- 2Enforce safety rules and respond in emergencies to keep children safe.
- 3Guide behavior with positive redirection, treating every child with dignity.
- 4Verify photo IDs before releasing children to authorized adults.
- 5Build relationships with kids, families, school staff, and YMCA teammates.
- 6Follow YMCA, licensing, and school district policies and keep program spaces clean.
- 7As a Youth Development Leader, supervise your own group of children with independence.
Requirements8
- 116+ years for Assistant, 18+ for Leader
- 2High school diploma or equivalent for Leader at Kansas sites
- 3One year of college preferred
- 4Previous experience with school-age children (babysitting, camp, childcare) a plus
- 5Ability to work with diverse backgrounds and abilities
- 6Engage children in indoor and outdoor activities with energy
- 7General computer technology proficiency
- 8Complete TB test and State Health Assessment within 30 days (MO)
