VP Equity & Climate at AIA - Senior Leadership
Overview
Lead AIA's combined equity and climate portfolio as Vice President. Drive strategy that shapes the profession's diversity and the built environment's resilience. This senior role reports to the COO and sits on the Senior Leadership Team. You will set climate action priorities, advance regenerative design, and integrate equity across K-12, higher ed, and partnerships. Your work connects two critical missions into one cohesive agenda with measurable impact.
What You'll Do11
- 1Set AIA's climate action and sustainability strategy, defining the rationale for sustainable and disaster resilient design.
- 2Lead the regenerative design strategy, embedding principles into member-facing tools and guidance.
- 3Develop climate tools and adoption strategies for firms, partnering with practice resources.
- 4Build industry partnerships that accelerate climate adoption beyond AIA's membership.
- 5Drive the K-12 and higher education engagement portfolio, shaping early exposure and licensure access.
- 6Integrate equity across AIA programs and practices, ensuring it permeates the organization.
- 7Provide strategic direction for the Women's Leadership Summit, aligning content and finances.
- 8Maintain partnerships with identity-based affinity organizations to broaden community reach.
- 9Coordinate progress on AIA's mission priorities, reporting to the Executive Team and Board.
- 10Establish measurement practices that track progress toward long-term equity and climate outcomes.
- 11Mentor and develop the team responsible for climate action and equity strategy.
Requirements8
- 115+ years progressive experience in equity, sustainability, or workforce development strategy.
- 2Senior leadership experience advancing equity and inclusion or climate and sustainability at an enterprise level.
- 3Demonstrated ability to think in systems and over long time horizons, building buy-in for delayed payoff.
- 4Experience building or applying a theory of change framework to guide strategy.
- 5Strong cross-functional influence, embedding priorities into other teams' work.
- 6Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- 7CAE certification preferred.
- 8Experience in architecture, design, engineering, or construction industry preferred.
Salary Insight
$174 - $200k per year
