Veterinary Assistant, ER & General Practice
Overview
You will own patient care and client communication in a 24-hour emergency and general practice, supporting a multi-doctor team at VCA Old Marple Animal Hospital. You will handle intake, restraint, lab work, and medication, all while keeping a calm, low-stress environment. What You'll Do8
- 1Obtain and document patient history in exam rooms for sick and well visits
- 2Restrain cats and dogs safely during exams, treatments, and procedures
- 3Talk with clients by phone and in person, providing updates and education
- 4Perform toe nail trims and ear cleanings, with training provided
- 5Draw up and administer injections, with training provided
- 6Collect and process lab samples, including blood draws, with training
- 7Prepare and administer medications as directed by veterinarians
- 8Keep accurate medical records for every patient encounter
Requirements8
- 11+ year of veterinary assistant or technician experience
- 2Comfort handling and restraining cats and dogs
- 3Ability to take patient histories and communicate with clients
- 4Basic knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and procedures
- 5Skill in drawing blood and placing IV catheters (training available)
- 6Experience with lab sample collection and processing
- 7Proficiency with medical recordkeeping systems
- 8Flexibility to work in an emergency department, including nights and weekends
