Veterinary Assistant, Small Animal Hospital
Overview
You will support VCA Feist Animal Hospital in delivering high-quality care to pets and their families. This 5-doctor practice handles preventive medicine, surgery, dentistry, and diagnostics. You will work alongside a collaborative team of veterinarians and technicians, gaining hands-on experience with surgical suite procedures, digital radiography, and in-house laboratory equipment. What You'll Do8
- 1Assist veterinarians during physical exams, surgical procedures, and dental cleanings, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- 2Perform radiographs, blood work, and urinalysis using IDEXX analyzers, and prepare samples for external labs.
- 3Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed, and monitor patients for pain and recovery.
- 4Execute venipuncture on dogs and cats, and manage patient care plans including wound care and nutritional support.
- 5Document patient records in AAHA-compliant software, maintaining accuracy and detail.
- 6Educate pet owners on treatment plans, follow-up care, and preventive health measures.
- 7Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments and equipment, upholding infection control standards.
- 8Track inventory levels for pharmaceuticals and supplies, and place orders to prevent shortages.
Requirements6
- 11-2 years experience as a Veterinary Assistant in a clinical setting
- 2Comfortable handling dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments
- 3High school diploma or equivalent
- 4Proficiency with venipuncture and patient restraint techniques
- 5Knowledge of AAHA standards for patient records and care
- 6Ability to work Full-time with flexible hours, including some weekends
