Used Car Technician, Automotive Repair & Diagnostics
Overview
You will own repair, inspection, and maintenance of used vehicles at a busy dealership, with 5+ years of hands-on experience. You will work with diagnostic equipment and follow checklists to ensure every vehicle meets safety and emissions standards. You will report to the Service Manager and coordinate with Service Advisers to explain issues to customers. You will maintain state inspection and emission licenses, and stay current on the latest automotive technologies. This role demands physical stamina and precision in a fast-paced, family-owned environment.
What You'll Do9
- 1Test vehicle parts and systems to verify correct operation, using diagnostic equipment such as OBD-II scanners.
- 2Identify mechanical problems through systematic diagnosis and troubleshooting, from engine to transmission systems.
- 3Follow inspection checklists to ensure all checks are completed on each vehicle, including safety and emissions.
- 4Perform basic and advanced maintenance: oil changes, tune-ups, transmission services, tire rotations, and repair of electronic and air conditioning systems.
- 5Replace or repair worn parts, such as brakes, belts, and filters, ensuring quality and longevity.
- 6Assist the Service Manager and Advisers in customer interactions, explaining repair needs in clear terms.
- 7Maintain all dealership-mandated training and certifications, including state inspection and emission licenses.
- 8Abide by government regulations and Bowser safety policies, keeping a clean and organized workspace.
- 9Handle additional duties as assigned, supporting team workflow and customer satisfaction.
Requirements10
- 12+ years of experience as an automotive technician, with proficiency in diagnostics and repair.
- 2Valid state inspection and emission license (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
- 3Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- 4Ability to multitask and prioritize repairs in a high-volume setting.
- 5Physical stamina: standing, walking, bending, and stooping for 8 hours per day.
- 6Ability to lift 50 lbs at a time.
- 7Strong customer service skills, explaining technical issues to non-technical clients.
- 8Familiarity with diagnostic equipment and scan tools such as AutoEnginuity or Snap-on.
- 9Knowledge of OBD-II systems and emissions testing procedures.
- 10Willingness to comply with all safety policies and maintain training records.
