What You'll Do7
- 1Meet with prospective and existing clients identify planning goals deliver clear compassionate legal advice
- 2Draft and review wills revocable living trusts irrevocable trusts powers of attorney living wills health-care proxies beneficiary designations related estate-planning documents
- 3Handle probate and estate administration matters including preparation of Surrogate’s Court filings asset collection creditor issues distributions fiduciary communications estate closings
- 4Advise executors administrators trustees beneficiaries families on fiduciary duties trust/estate-administration issues handle guardianships contested probate will or trust disputes fiduciary accountings settlement negotiations coordinate with CPAs financial advisors insurance professionals outside tax counsel when appropriate
- 5Identify issues requiring estate gift income-tax Medicaid-planning asset-protection business-succession analysis and coordinate with external professionals
- 6Maintain accurate matter files deadlines billing records client communications
- 7Participate in business development through referral relationships community networking professional presentations client follow-up
Requirements8
- 1J.D. from accredited law school active admission New Jersey Bar
- 23+ years substantive trusts-and-estates estate-planning probate or estate-administration experience
- 3Exceptional junior candidates with direct practice exposure may be considered
- 4Ability to independently draft sophisticated customized estate-planning documents
- 5Working knowledge of New Jersey probate practice Surrogate’s Court procedures fiduciary responsibilities estate-administration workflow
- 6Strong legal writing client-counseling organization deadline-management skills
- 7Comfortable working directly with clients taking ownership of matters in lean entrepreneurial firm environment
- 8Professional judgment discretion empathy service-oriented approach during sensitive family transitions
