Traveling Welder, Precast Concrete Erection
Overview
You own the welding and assembly of precast concrete panels on commercial construction sites across the Midwest and Northeast. As part of a dedicated crew, you take direction from the foreperson and execute precise welds that secure panels in place. You work outdoors in all weather, on uneven ground, and at heights, moving materials up to 50 lbs. This role demands travel 50% or more, with overnights, and offers a path to union membership for certified welders.
What You'll Do8
- 1Weld precast concrete panels to structural supports using SMAW and FCAW processes.
- 2Follow foreperson's instructions to position panels and complete setup tasks.
- 3Handle materials and equipment with care to avoid damage and waste.
- 4Operate aerial work platforms and ladders to reach elevated work areas.
- 5Adhere to all safety protocols, including PPE use and fall protection.
- 6Perform miscellaneous labor tasks as directed, such as cleaning and staging.
- 7Travel to job sites across the region, often with overnight stays.
- 8Work overtime and weekends to meet project deadlines.
Requirements8
- 12+ years of construction or manual labor experience.
- 2AWS certification with 3G and 4G welding positions preferred.
- 3Ability to carry out complex verbal instructions.
- 4Comfort working from heights using ladders and aerial platforms.
- 5Willingness to obtain union membership.
- 6Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- 7Travel availability 50% or more, including overnights.
- 8High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
