Journeyman Ironworker Welder, Structural Steel & Rigging
Overview
You will own structural steel erection and welding for heavy industrial projects across the Phoenix area. You will read and interpret shop drawings, rig and hoist steel members, and weld to 3G/4G standards. You will work with a crew of ironworkers, coordinating with crane operators via radio or hand signals. You will take pride in a safe work environment and deliver precise, quality work under tight deadlines. What You'll Do10
- 1Read and interpret steel erection and shop drawings to confirm layouts and erection sequences.
- 2Create layouts on concrete and existing structures per drawings, then shake out steel in order.
- 3Determine proper rigging slings and hardware based on load weight and ensure all rigging tools are safe before use.
- 4Communicate effectively with crane operator and crew using radio or hand signals to coordinate lifts.
- 5Detect faulty equipment, tools, or material defects and notify the Foreman immediately.
- 6Fabricate metal parts like frames, columns, beams, and girders per blueprints or supervisor revisions.
- 7Erect structural steel members alongside a crew, connecting columns, beams, and girders with bolts.
- 8Weld parts using shielded metal arc, flux-cored, or gas tungsten arc processes, meeting 3G/4G qualifications.
- 9Gouge metals using air-arc gouging and preheat workpieces with torches or wed burners as needed.
- 10Dismantle and store rigging equipment after each use, and prepare material surfaces for welding by cleaning or degreasing.
Requirements10
- 14+ years of experience as an Ironworker with a focus on structural steel erection.
- 2Ability to weld 3G and 4G with different welding applications (e.g., SMAW, FCAW, GTAW).
- 3Skilled in operating a telescopic forklift, boom lift, and scissor lift.
- 4Proficiency in reading steel erection and shop drawings, and creating layouts.
- 5Experience with tight deadlines and strict safety requirements.
- 6History of maintaining safe work practices and taking pride in a safe work environment.
- 7Ability to work with minimal supervision and exhibit effective leadership skills.
- 8Great communication skills, especially using hand signals or radio with crane or forklift operators.
- 9Comfortable working at heights.
- 10Preference for OSHA/MSHA safety certifications and bull-rigging experience.
Salary Insight
$62 - $83k per year
