Transmission Line Engineer, Overhead Utility Design
Overview
You will own the design of overhead transmission line projects for electric utility clients, covering new construction, rebuilds, relocations, and system improvements. You will work with PLS-CADD to deliver structural loading, sag and tension, foundation, and routing evaluations. You will coordinate with project managers, substation engineers, and environmental specialists, and mentor junior engineers. This role offers a path to PE licensure and the chance to shape critical infrastructure in the Detroit area.
What You'll Do7
- 1Design overhead transmission line projects from 69kV through 500kV, including new builds, rebuilds, and relocations.
- 2Prepare engineering calculations, construction packages, specifications, and technical reports for utility clients.
- 3Perform structural loading, sag and tension analyses using PLS-CADD.
- 4Coordinate with project managers, substation engineers, and permitting agencies to align designs with project scopes.
- 5Review drawings and calculations for accuracy and quality, and deliver construction support by responding to RFIs.
- 6Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and reviewing their work.
- 7Support proposal development and client presentations, and communicate with contractors and regulatory agencies.
Requirements8
- 1Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 25-8 years of transmission line design experience.
- 3PE license preferred; EIT with ability to obtain PE considered.
- 4Experience designing lines from 69kV to 500kV preferred.
- 5Proficiency with PLS-CADD required; PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, SAP2000, MFAD, or LPILE preferred.
- 6Working knowledge of NESC, ASCE, IEEE, and utility design standards.
- 7Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and excellent written and verbal communication.
- 8Ability to manage multiple projects and travel to project sites as needed.
