Overview

You will own the construction, operation, and maintenance of transmission lines and facilities across AEP's service territory, ensuring compliance with NERC Reliability Standards. You will direct line crews, manage outage restoration, and coordinate with technical services to develop annual maintenance plans. As the critical link between field operations and the ICS process, you will lead restoration efforts during major outages and work alongside the Distribution organization. This role demands flexibility, communication, creativity, and teamwork to keep the grid reliable.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Assign all line crew work and allocate personnel and equipment to maximize efficiency in transmission line maintenance and construction.
  • 2Lead NERC compliance activities in the field, ensuring all operations meet reliability standards.
  • 3Direct restoration efforts during major outages, acting as the key player in the ICS process and coordinating with Distribution.
  • 4Collaborate with Technical Services to develop and execute the annual maintenance plan.
  • 5Oversee inspections and construction of line facilities, entering data into applicable databases.
  • 6Develop and improve maintenance practices for transmission lines and new facility construction.
  • 7Evaluate and recommend equipment purchases or leases for maintenance and construction work.
  • 8Coordinate with internal groups, customers, and the public on transmission line operations and maintenance.
  • 9Advise the Transmission Work Planning Manager on line facility matters and enforce safety rules.
  • 10Recommend and enable training for assigned employees to maintain a skilled workforce.

Requirements10

  • 18+ years of transmission field services, construction management, or engineering work with a Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • 210 years of related experience with a two-year technical degree in construction or project management.
  • 315 years of related experience in transmission line construction, operation, and maintenance with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 4Valid driver's license.
  • 5Physical demand level: Sedentary, with occasional light lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • 6Travel required to field sites and other locations.
  • 7Must be able to work on site in Pataskala or Chillicothe, Ohio.
  • 8Demonstrated leadership in outage restoration and emergency response.
  • 9Strong knowledge of NERC reliability standards and compliance.
  • 10Excellent communication and teamwork skills for cross-functional coordination.
