Tractor Trailer Technician, Diesel Repair & Maintenance
Overview
You will own maintenance, repair, and inspection of semi-trailers, keeping a fleet roadworthy at a Boston repair shop. You will diagnose mechanical, electrical, and structural issues, from air brakes to refrigeration units, and deliver repairs that meet DOT standards. Working with a team of Level B and C technicians, you will mentor and guide less experienced staff. What You'll Do9
- 1Diagnose and repair electrical wiring, roofs, panels, upper couplers, and rear door frames independently.
- 2Troubleshoot and repair air brake systems, including ABS, and all aspects of spring and air ride suspensions.
- 3Assemble axle wheel assemblies with proper torque procedures, including hub and drum assemblies, bearings, seals, and races.
- 4Troubleshoot and repair all electrical systems, including lights, 7-way receptacles, interior lighting, and switches.
- 5Repair body and undercarriage damage on all trailer types, from small panels to structural repairs.
- 6Perform diagnostics and maintenance on refrigeration units.
- 7Execute preventative maintenance: maintain oil levels, tire pressure, grease fittings, and adjust S-cam brakes.
- 8Mentor Level B and C technicians, providing guidance and training on complex repairs.
- 9Complete work orders per SOPs and document all work performed and parts used.
Requirements7
- 15+ years of trailer maintenance and repair experience or training.
- 2Proven ability to independently perform complex mechanical repairs.
- 3Advanced carpentry, welding, or fabrication skills.
- 4Strong knowledge of trailer systems, including air brakes and suspensions.
- 5Understanding of DOT regulations.
- 6Basic computer proficiency for documentation.
- 7Physical ability: lift 40 pounds, work at heights, and work in confined spaces.
Salary Insight
