Own the full lifecycle of commercial trailer maintenance, from preventative maintenance inspections to structural welding and ABS diagnostics, at a shop handling 200+ trailers daily. You join a team of 12 techs reporting to a lead mechanic, with Aerotek staffing support. The role advances through 4 levels, rewarding independent repair skills with higher pay and certifications.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Run preventative maintenance inspections on commercial trailers, catching failures before they hit the road.
  • 2Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems across flatbeds, dry vans, and semi-trailers.
  • 3Swap out hubcaps, lighting systems, plywood flooring, roof patches, and door hardware to keep trailers road-ready.
  • 4Check tire pressure and tread depth, flagging wear patterns that signal alignment or suspension issues.
  • 5Maintain fluid levels and lubricate suspension and brake components per manufacturer schedules.
  • 6Troubleshoot trailer lighting and wiring to meet DOT compliance standards.
  • 7Repair ABS (Anti-Lock Braking Systems), replacing air valves, brake chambers, and air lines.
  • 8Rebuild spring ride and air ride suspensions, including axle and wheel-end assemblies.
  • 9Weld and fabricate structural repairs for cracks, reinforcements, and custom mounts.
  • 10Document every repair and communicate findings to the service manager and customers.

Requirements8

  • 12+ years in trailer or heavy equipment repair, including brake and suspension work.
  • 2Hands-on welding and fabrication experience, with MIG or stick preferred.
  • 3Proficiency with electrical diagnostics for ABS and lighting systems.
  • 4Experience with air brake systems, including valve and chamber replacement.
  • 5Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in confined spaces under trailers.
  • 6Own basic hand tools; specialty tools provided by the shop.
  • 7Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • 8ASE certification in T4 or T6 preferred, not required.
