Overview
<b> torch cutter</b> role leading metal cutting and yard operations at an open air industrial site. you will operate an oxy propane torch to cut and prepare metal to exact specs at scale. you will assist with sorting, moving, and staging metal materials and operate heavy equipment with proper training. strong safety discipline and physical endurance are essential. you will work with a team to meet production and quality targets in a fast moving environment.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build metal cutting operations using an <b>oxy propane torch</b> to meet exact specifications and tolerances.
- 2Inspect metals for size and specifications, confirming proper processing and cutting techniques with <b>shop math</b> accuracy.
- 3Assist with general yard operations including sorting, moving, and staging metal materials.
- 4Operate heavy equipment such as <b>skid steers</b> and front loaders, with training provided as needed.
- 5Perform basic troubleshooting on heavy equipment to support safe and efficient operation.
- 6Follow all safety protocols and use <b>PPE</b> correctly to minimize risk.
- 7Measure and cut metal to required dimensions using precise <b>measurement</b> practices.
- 8Maintain a clean, organized yard and report hazards or equipment issues promptly.
- 9Demonstrate safety awareness in industrial and yard environments and adapt to changing priorities.
- 10Work effectively in a fast paced setting to meet production and quality expectations.
Requirements9
- 1Hands on experience using an <b>oxy‑propane torch</b> or similar cutting tools for metal cutting
- 2Ability to identify different types of metals by appearance, properties, or labeling
- 3Previous experience in metal processing, scrap yard operations, or industrial environments
- 4Experience operating heavy equipment such as <b>skid steers</b>, front loaders, and CAT machinery
- 5Proficiency in shop math including measuring, basic calculations, and reading measurements accurately
- 6Ability to perform heavy physical labor including lifting, bending, and varied body positions for extended periods
- 7Strong awareness of safety practices in industrial and yard environments
- 8Ability to work effectively in a fast paced setting with changing priorities
- 9Experience with sheet metal or scrap metal materials (nice to have)
