Overview

Directly supervising supporting and providing direction and leadership to the Thermal Engineers and third party Engineering teams. The Thermal Engineering Manager will be responsible for the financial performance of his/her team and will support client management and business development activities. Individual will focus on Integrated Modular Solutions for three core market segments: IT Telecom and Industrial. This will include detailed system designs for Data Centers Central Office Switching Centers and Video Hub Office and will include supervising all Engineering discipline.

What You'll Do15

  • 1Responsible for the post-sales Thermal Engineering team and taking over a project from the pre-sales team and managing the technical project execution from initial design through production and delivery to the customer
  • 2Lead the Thermal Engineering team to create designs which meet or exceed Vertiv’s quality requirements and fall within budgetary requirements
  • 3Coordinate all Engineering disciplines including Structural Architectural Thermal Electrical Mechanical Fire Detection and Suppression and BMS/Controls with a team that consists of any combination of Vertiv and third party Engineers
  • 4Work with other Vertiv business units and preferred third party equipment suppliers for appropriate selection of equipment meeting customer and project requirements
  • 5Interact with the customer and their Engineering teams to coordinate the Vertiv design with the customer’s requirements and expectations
  • 6Interact with the customer’s permitting agent when needed to support the customer’s permitting efforts
  • 7Interact with the customer’s General Contractor to coordinate all site work
  • 8Manage and coordinate contracted engineering companies in regards to civil Engineering HVAC and Structural designs and calculations and factory shop drawing development
  • 9Work with local agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with federal state and municipal requirements and building codes
  • 10Be familiar with standards – National Building Code (NBC) International Building Code (IBC) AISC specification for structural steel buildings ASTM for structural steel material specification and finish AWS welding requirements and National Electrical Code (NEC)
  • 11Support onsite project operations including failure mode and root cause analysis maintenance and troubleshooting support and operating procedure review
  • 12Travel to sites for site review and work with onsite field engineers as well as provide engineering evaluations mechanical systems audits and startup as needed
  • 13Offer creative out of the box solutions to the customer
  • 14Create and improve existing engineering plans processes and procedures
  • 15Perform annual performance evaluations and set objectives for their Engineering team members

Requirements11

  • 1Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering – Optional, if actual experience is demonstrated
  • 2Professional engineering (PE) License – optional 6+ years of engineering and management experience
  • 3Working knowledge of AutoCAD Autodesk Revit SolidWorks etc
  • 4Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Applications
  • 5Understanding of the National Electrical Code National Building Code International Building Code NFPA70 etc
  • 6Fundamental understanding of critical data center equipment
  • 7Excellent organization skills and must be detail oriented
  • 8Proven problem-solving skills
  • 9Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • 10Strong leadership skills
  • 11Time travel required 15–20% domestic travel
