Systems Manager, GCP Tooling & Platform Operations
Overview
You own the platform toolchain for the Enterprise Data & Analytics (ED&A) Data and AI platform team, ensuring reliable operation and observability across Google Cloud Platform. You lead a group focused on strategy, maintenance, and monitoring, directly influencing uptime and performance at enterprise scale. As a hands-on technical leader, you balance deep GCP expertise with team management. This role stands out for its hybrid schedule (3 days onsite in New York) and direct hire status.
What You'll Do8
- 1Own the platform tooling strategy for the ED&A Data and AI platform, defining roadmaps for GCP services and tools.
- 2Lead a team of engineers to maintain and operate platform services, ensuring high availability and performance.
- 3Drive observability improvements by implementing monitoring, logging, and alerting for GCP resources.
- 4Build and refine CI/CD pipelines to automate deployment and reduce manual toil.
- 5Scale infrastructure as code practices using Terraform and Cloud Deployment Manager.
- 6Debug complex issues across GCP services, collaborating with engineering teams to resolve root causes.
- 7Partner with data engineers and data scientists to align tooling with their needs.
- 8Mentor engineers on GCP best practices and promote a culture of reliability.
Requirements7
- 17+ years in platform engineering or systems management, with 3+ years leading technical teams.
- 25+ years hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, including Compute Engine, Kubernetes (GKE), and BigQuery.
- 35+ years building infrastructure as code with Terraform or Cloud Deployment Manager.
- 4Expertise in CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Cloud Build.
- 5Strong knowledge of observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Cloud Monitoring.
- 6Proficiency in scripting with Python or Bash for automation.
- 7Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a track record of managing remote teams.
