Systems Manager, Google Cloud Platform Data Engineering
Overview
You lead the hands-on technical team that designs, builds, and maintains enterprise-grade data pipelines powering the Enterprise Data & Analytics Platform (EDAP). Your team owns the core stages of the data lifecycle on Google Cloud Platform, from transfer and ingestion to transformation, curation, and exposure. You manage a highly skilled group of engineers, setting technical direction and ensuring delivery at scale. This role combines deep GCP expertise with team leadership to drive reliable, high-performance data infrastructure.
What You'll Do7
- 1Design and own the architectural blueprint for GCP data pipelines, ensuring scalability and reliability across the enterprise.
- 2Lead the team in building ingestion frameworks that handle batch and streaming data from diverse sources into BigQuery.
- 3Drive the transformation and curation layer, implementing data quality checks and governance controls.
- 4Manage the exposure layer, building Looker dashboards and APIs for downstream consumers.
- 5Ship the first 90 days by establishing a pipeline monitoring and alerting framework using Cloud Monitoring and Cloud Logging.
- 6Mentor engineers on Python and SQL best practices, fostering a culture of code review and automation.
- 7Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to optimize data models for performance and cost on BigQuery.
Requirements8
- 15+ years leading data engineering teams on Google Cloud Platform.
- 25+ years building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines with Apache Airflow or Cloud Composer.
- 33+ years hands-on experience with BigQuery and Dataflow for large-scale processing.
- 4Expertise in Python and SQL for data transformation and automation.
- 5Proven experience with Looker for BI and dashboard development.
- 6Strong understanding of Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, and Dataform for data lifecycle management.
- 73+ years managing direct reports and overseeing technical project delivery.
- 8Excellent communication skills to interface with stakeholders and non-technical teams.
