Student Ambassador, Academic Engagement & Outreach
Overview
As a Project CAMINOS Student Ambassador, you will represent Cal Poly Pomona in outreach programs that build college awareness and access for K-12 students, families, and educators. Funded by the East L.A Subregional K-16 Collaborative Grant, this role places you at the front of campus events, workshops, and summer programs. You will guide prospective students through college planning tools like Cal State Apply and CaliforniaColleges.edu while sharing your own journey. This position offers hands-on experience in event logistics, mentorship, and public speaking, with training in social media content and podcast production. You work 8+ hours weekly with occasional evenings and weekends, directly impacting college readiness in your community.
What You'll Do10
- 1Welcome and engage prospective students, families, and educators during outreach programs, including workshops, college fairs, and campus visits.
- 2Mentor small groups and individuals by sharing approved information on admissions, financial aid, scholarships, and campus resources.
- 3Facilitate activities and support event logistics to create a positive and inclusive environment for all participants.
- 4Guide students through Cal State Apply and CaliforniaColleges.edu to navigate college planning resources.
- 5Refer families to appropriate departments for questions on admissions, financial aid, and student support services.
- 6Share personal educational experiences to inspire prospective students and offer authentic peer perspectives on university life.
- 7Track event participation and complete assigned projects, such as designing flyers with Adobe Creative Suite or producing podcast episodes.
- 8Collaborate with staff and fellow ambassadors to refine outreach programming and improve participant experiences.
- 9Attend training sessions and team huddles to stay aligned with program goals.
- 10Model professionalism and leadership while representing the university both on and off campus.
Requirements8
- 1Current Cal Poly Pomona undergraduate student with good academic and judicial standing.
- 2Valid California driver's license, current auto insurance, and reliable personal transportation for off-campus duties.
- 3Ability to commit to a regular schedule of 8+ hours per week, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- 4Comfortable learning and using technology platforms and office equipment.
- 5Bilingual fluency in Spanish preferred.
- 6Experience with K-12 students through tutoring, coaching, or youth programs preferred.
- 7Prior experience in leadership or peer mentoring roles preferred.
- 8Ability to pass a background check and adhere to university policies, including COVID-19 vaccination or exemption.
