Overview

Own instrument sterilization and tray preparation at a 1000+ bed health system in Atlanta. You will ensure every surgical tray meets AAMI and TJC standards before reaching the operating room. The role operates across the Central Sterile Supply department, supporting multiple ORs daily. You will work with CRCST certified peers and report to the Sterile Processing Educator. This position offers weekend day shifts and direct impact on patient safety.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Decontaminate instruments using washer-decontaminator, cart washer, and ultrasonic cleaner within the first 90 days.
  • 2Operate steam, gas plasma, and peracetic acid sterilizers, scanning barcodes on each tray.
  • 3Inspect surgical instruments for cleanliness and damage, selecting appropriate wraps or containers.
  • 4Assemble surgical trays, verifying each instrument against the count sheet.
  • 5Monitor sterilizers with biological and chemical indicators, documenting results and activating recall when needed.
  • 6Deliver sterile supplies and emergency carts to units throughout the hospital in under 30 minutes.
  • 7Support the OR by locating trays and facilitating quick turnover during surgeries.
  • 8Train new staff and perioperative students on proper processing protocols.
  • 9Maintain inventory levels and communicate supply needs to the coordinator.
  • 10Troubleshoot 3M auto reader equipment to incubate biological indicators.

Requirements8

  • 11+ years of sterile processing experience in a hospital setting.
  • 2CRCST or CSPDT certification required, within 1 year of hire.
  • 3High school diploma or GED.
  • 4Knowledge of AORN recommendations and AAMI guidelines.
  • 5Ability to identify surgical instruments and their handling requirements.
  • 6Basic computer skills for barcode scanning and documentation.
  • 7Fluent in English to communicate with medical staff.
  • 8Working knowledge of TJC requirements.
