Overview
Own sterile processing operations for a Level 1 trauma center at Baylor Scott & White in Dallas, TX. Weekend PRN shift from 6am to 2:30pm. You will decontaminate, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments for 20+ operating rooms while mentoring junior techs. This role demands CBSPD or CRCST certification and thrives on autonomy in a fast-paced hospital environment.
What You'll Do10
- 1Decontaminate and sterilize surgical instruments using STERIS washers and Amsco sterilizers per AAMI standards.
- 2Assemble surgical trays and instruments based on physician preference cards for orthopedic, cardiac, and neurological procedures.
- 3Coordinate supply inventory by pulling case carts and restocking sterile storage to support daily OR schedules.
- 4Mentor Sterile Processing Tech 1 staff on proper cleaning techniques and infection control protocols.
- 5Operate sterilization equipment with written documentation of cycles and biological indicators.
- 6Inspect instruments for damage and wear, replacing or escalating issues to lead technician.
- 7Collaborate with OR nurses and surgeons to ensure instrument availability for emergency cases.
- 8Maintain compliance with TJC and CMS regulations for sterile processing.
- 9Train new hires on instrument identification and wrapping techniques during weekend shifts.
- 10Serve as a point of contact for supply chain to ensure adequate par levels of consumables.
Requirements8
- 11+ year of experience in sterile processing or central supply.
- 2H.S. Diploma or GED required.
- 3Active CBSPD or CRCST certification (or CSPDT or CST).
- 4Knowledge of AAMI standards for sterilization and infection control.
- 5Proficiency in SDS and Cidex disinfectants.
- 6Familiarity with V. Mueller and Scanlan instrumentation.
- 7Physical ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for 8-hour shifts.
- 8Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as assigned.
