As a Central Processing Technician II, you own the sterilization workflow for surgical instruments across Allegheny Health Network. You decontaminate, assemble, and sterilize complex instrument sets, ensuring compliance with AAMI standards and hospital protocols. You mentor junior technicians and troubleshoot equipment failures in real time. What You'll Do10
- 1Disassemble and clean surgical instruments using enzymatic detergents and ultrasonic cleaners to remove bioburden.
- 2Operate and troubleshoot automated washers and sterilizers, including gravity displacement and steam autoclaves.
- 3Inspect instruments under magnification for cleanliness, function, and damage, replacing worn parts.
- 4Assemble complex instrument sets per count sheets, verifying completeness and functionality.
- 5Wrap and package sets using CSR wrap and rigid containers, labeling for sterilization.
- 6Load and run sterilizers, monitoring cycles and interpreting physical, chemical, and biological indicators.
- 7Document sterilization parameters and maintain logs for infection control audits.
- 8Deliver sterile supplies to OR and other departments, prioritizing urgent requests.
- 9Train new technicians on decontamination, assembly, and sterilization procedures.
- 10Enforce safety protocols and use PPE consistently to prevent cross-contamination.
Requirements8
- 1High School diploma or equivalent required.
- 22+ years of sterile processing experience in a hospital setting.
- 3Active CRCST or CSPDT certification at hire.
- 4CST or TSC certification acceptable in lieu of CRCST/CSPDT.
- 5Expert knowledge of AAMI standards and OSHA bloodborne pathogen guidelines.
- 6Ability to lift 40+ pounds and stand for long shifts.
- 7Proficiency with instrument tracking software and sterilization logs.
- 8Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize under time pressure.
