Staff Electrical Engineer, Battery & Power Electronics
Overview
You own PCBA development for Form Energy's battery platform, from requirements through production release. You work with Altium, 1000BASE-T1 Ethernet, and CAN-FD on boards that manage high-power systems in safety-critical environments. You collaborate with Systems, Firmware, and Manufacturing teams to ship validated hardware. This role prioritizes technical depth, independent drive, and hands-on debugging. You deliver designs that meet UL 991, UL 1973, UL 1998, and UL 9540 standards.
What You'll Do9
- 1Own full PCBA lifecycle from concept through production release, including schematic capture in Altium and layout review.
- 2Generate electrical requirements, block diagrams, and design specs for 48V power distribution and control systems.
- 3Select components for MCU/MPU designs, SOM carrier boards, and Ethernet interfaces.
- 4Drive PCB layout for signal integrity, power integrity, and manufacturability across multi-layer boards.
- 5Support vendor DFM reviews and design release, then execute board bring-up and debugging.
- 6Develop test plans for CAN-FD, SPI, UART, I2C, and isoSPI interfaces, and validate system behavior.
- 7Troubleshoot released designs, perform root cause analysis, and produce 8D reports.
- 8Collaborate with Firmware, Mechanical, and Manufacturing teams during design reviews and integration.
- 9Document design decisions and test results in JIRA and JAMA for traceability.
Requirements10
- 17+ years in electrical engineering, or 5+ years with an MS in EE or related field.
- 2Hands-on schematic capture with Altium or equivalent ECAD platform.
- 3Multi-layer PCB design experience, with interest in detailed layout execution.
- 4Board bring-up and validation experience using DMMs, oscilloscopes, and debug tools.
- 5Working knowledge of CAN-FD, SPI, UART, I2C, and 1000BASE-T1 Ethernet.
- 6Proficiency in MCU/MPU-based designs, power management circuits, and ADC/DAC interfaces.
- 7Experience in high-power, industrial, automotive, or energy environments with safety-critical systems.
- 8Understanding of UL 991, UL 1973, UL 1998, or UL 9540 compliance.
- 9Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and strong cross-functional communication.
- 10Preferred: 10+ years experience, BESS background, or DFMEA/CFMEA knowledge.
