Embedded Hardware & Firmware Engineer
Overview
You will own the design, development, and validation of advanced embedded systems for ionization and process monitoring products used in semiconductor manufacturing, life sciences, and advanced display. Work in a hands-on role covering PCB design, firmware development, board bring-up, and hardware-software co-design. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and report to engineering leadership in Alameda, CA. This role stands out because you will directly support ESD control and ionization systems that are critical to semiconductor process control, working with Altium Designer, C/C++, and Linux-based embedded platforms.
What You'll Do8
- 1Develop and maintain low-level C/C++ firmware for microcontrollers and embedded processors, including real-time control logic, hardware abstraction layers (HAL), and device drivers.
- 2Design and review multi-layer PCBs using Altium Designer or equivalent CAD tools, incorporating ESD protection, grounding/shielding, and ESD-safe handling practices.
- 3Bring up new hardware platforms and debug using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers, validating signal integrity, power delivery, and communication interfaces.
- 4Implement and support drivers for SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, Ethernet, and USB, integrating with sensors and actuators.
- 5Support electronics for plasma and ionization/static-neutralization systems, including ionizing bars and ion emitters, ensuring ESD control and monitoring alignment with ANSI/ESD S20.20.
- 6Build diagnostic and operator-facing applications using C# and .NET, supporting communication between firmware and desktop-based tools.
- 7Produce technical documentation, design specs, and test procedures, and participate in design reviews and root-cause investigations.
- 8Integrate firmware with Linux-based embedded systems and support CI/CD pipelines for automated testing.
Requirements10
- 15+ years of embedded hardware and firmware development experience.
- 2Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- 3Solid C/C++ programming for embedded systems, including real-time and bare-metal environments.
- 4Working knowledge of microcontrollers, memory-mapped I/O, and hardware abstraction layers (HAL).
- 5Hands-on PCB design experience using Altium Designer or similar tools.
- 6Proficiency with standard bench test equipment, including oscilloscope and DMM.
- 7Experience debugging communication protocols: SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, Ethernet, and USB.
- 8Experience with version control systems such as Git, GitHub, GitLab, or Azure DevOps.
- 9Working understanding of analog/digital electronics, power supplies, signal integrity, and EMI/EMC and ESD considerations.
- 10Ability to manage multiple priorities in a development environment.
